The Upside to John McCain

To be fair, there could be an upside on a micro level. See Martin Kady's write-up in the Politico on how John McCain could actually help some GOPers. Some could call these folks "RINOs.", and many times I would be one of those "some." Call them what you want, but there is an unfortunately reality that we need to face. We still need them if we want to get back the majority....some day. Don't believe me? Look at what happened in 2006. Republicans were crushed in NY, CT, and PA.

“McCain has a great deal of appeal in crossover Democrats,” said Rep. Phil English (R-Pa.), who faces a competitive race in his blue-collar Erie-area district. “I don’t think McCain brings the same liability to the race that some members of the current administration would. ... Having McCain on the ticket is appealing to veterans, to reform voters, and will have a positive effect on my race.”
